Hot Rolls

HOT ROLLS

This is a quick and easy one to make.  Good for beginners.  My 9 year old granddaughter, Hanna made this and they were delicious the first time they turned out.

1 Cup boiling water
1/4 Cup Butter (can use shorting)
1 1/2 Teaspoon salt (use less)
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 Egg, beaten
1 Tablespoon yeast (the original recipe said 1 yeast cake, (but they are hard to find).
1/2 Teaspoon sugar
3 1/2 Cups Plain (all purpose) Flour, approximately (You want the dough easy to handle).

Combine boiling water, butter, salt and sugar; Let the mixture cool.   Combine yeast cake (or Tablespoon of yeast) with half teaspoon sugar and just enough lukewarm water to soften (or start the yeast to working (bubbling).
When the mixture has cooled, put in the beaten egg, yeast mixture and about 2 cups of flour to start. (Add more if needed)
Mix and continue to add flour until dough can be easily handled.
Knead lightly and let rise in a warm place until double in bulk.
Push down and form into Parker House Rolls.  (These are the ones with slits in the top, not really necessary but pretty).

Let rise until double in bulk again.

Bake in 375 degree oven for 15-20 minutes   my oven will cook in 12-15 minutes.

Enjoy
